The German parliament is expected to vote on a bill facilitating easier changes of name and gender in official documents for transgender, intersex, and nonbinary individuals.

The bill, known as the "self-determination law," is proposed by Chancellor Olaf Scholz's government and would allow adults and minors with specific conditions to legally change their name and gender without needing expert assessments or a court decision. This reform is part of several social changes pledged by the liberal-leaning coalition government since late 2021.
