Evacuations Ordered as Wildfires Spread in North Carolina and Tennessee
Wildfires in the Sauratown Mountains of North Carolina and on Whitwell Mountain in Tennessee have led to evacuations of campgrounds and surrounding areas.
Campgrounds in North Carolina and Tennessee have been evacuated due to encroaching wildfires that have also prompted a red flag warning for high winds and low humidity. In North Carolina, 50 children were evacuated from a youth camp and residents in Stokes County faced evacuations as the fire spread to 300 acres with little containment. In Tennessee, a campground evacuation followed a wildfire caused by an escaped campfire, which has burned 20 acres so far. Firefighters across states have joined the effort, and rain is expected to aid in containment efforts.
