Recent studies by the U.S. Geological Survey and New Mexico environment officials have found so-called forever chemicals, or PFAS, in major water sources across New Mexico.

The U.S. Geological Survey and state environment officials' studies discovered PFAS in all major rivers of New Mexico, with the highest concentrations found downstream of urban areas. The research, which also included some groundwater wells, is part of an ongoing effort to understand and mitigate the presence of PFAS, known for their environmental persistence and health risks.
